Little Apples

Once the baby is born, it's possible to make the label. I went with backstitched name and date of birth and an apple tree because Little Red Riding Hood needs apples for her basket.
The completed quilt is blogged here.

Baby Bib

Today's make, A commission for a friend of mine, I hope she likes it. It was very simple except I sewed the layers together in the wrong order and had to unpick it all. Note to self, make sure the layers are in the right order before sewing. i.e. the backing wrong side up on top of the front and the towelling. I was going to applique the letters onto it but they would have taken up too much room  so I went for embroidery instead.

I also put little flowers onto it just for interest but generally simple is best on a small item such as this. I cobbled together a pattern from ones I had seen, apart from my mistake at the beginning and the nuisance of the machine thread breaking while I was sewing the buttonhole, this was an easy and straightforward make. Another thing to make for the new grandchild due in September, Yay!

Knitted Lavender Bag

I had to go out and pick some lavender to photograph the little bag, it was just asking for it.

Very simple to make but I'm going to put the pattern in my 'Patterns and Tutorials' page on the blog so if you want to have a go at making a really easy special gift for someone then look no further.

Sock Pattern on Ravelry

My first pattern on Ravelry The link on the blog post shows the pattern but not as straightforward as I would have liked. However, there it is for all to see.

Here is a pair of socks made using the pattern

Basic Sock Pattern

Here is the link to this pattern for Basic Socks. Pretty much a generic pattern but my take on it. Please contact me should you have any problems or spot any glaring errors in it. This is the first time I have tried to put a PDF on my blog and I'm trying to link it to the Ravelry Pattern database. Here's hoping.  Click here for the pattern.

Thank you to Blogs by Heather for the step by step instructions for uploading the pattern.

Kit Bags

I've had a lovely weekend. Just him and me at home for a change. So I took the opportunity to play with my seeing machine and made a couple of small totes. These will hold the kit contents for the baby cardi kits I'm putting together.

I've also put lots of yarn from my stash on eBay. I know I won't use it so may as well sell it if I can.

Only a couple of hours left before back on mum duty so I'm chilling.

Herons and Scotch Eggs

The Hubs and I had a lovely walk this afternoon. Starting in Long Marston, across fields and along the canal back to the car. The weather was fine and sunny, we heard so may birds singing that we couldn't identify and met some rather shy piglets and cows.
Along the towpath we surprised this heron as he sat watching the water for fish. He was the second one we saw in just a few minutes, or may be the same one twice.
Four miles later, starving and thirsty we went into the Queens Head at Long Marston for some light refreshment. A pint of stella and a scotch egg with HP sauce later all was well with the world.

Tortoise Buttons

Just finished this baby cardigan. I found some gorgeous buttons for it.

I used some left over Debbie Bliss Baby Cash Merino from the jumpsuit I made last week. I'm thinking of putting the pattern I created to make it, the yarn and buttons into a kit. I'm thinking of a drawstring bag in a coordinating fabric. A work in progress.

Blue Baby Jumpsuit

I'm really happy with this. It was a straight forward pattern and can be found here. I did make a few changes to the pattern but only a few. I used 150 gms of Debbie Bliss Baby Cash Merino.

I have lots of buttons in my stash, but could I find 9 blue ones that I liked? No is the answer so I opted for the red. I think it looks lovely and cheery, like cherries.
Now all I need are more grandchildren so I can knit more of these. I can see one with self patterning yarn or a bit of fairisle across the front or an intasia motif, the options are endless.

Baby jumpsuit

I'm loving this little jumpsuit. Simple construction and working up nicely in Debbie Bliss Baby Cash Merino. Can't wait to finish it. I'll post pattern details when it's finished.

Sock Kits in my Etsy Shop

Sock kits now in my Etsy Shop. This one with Cath Kidston fabric on the outside and pink stripe on the inside. The yarn has co-ordinating row markers.

This one with Clarke and Clarke fabric on the outside and white spots on blue inside. I include everything needed to make socks, yarn, needles, row markers, a sewing needle to sew up the toe and my pattern for basic socks.

This one also Clarke and Clarke in a different colourway from the one above and green and white check on the inside. The Zippy pouch is easy to make and holds the contents of the kits perfectly. I have made smaller zippy pouches for my camera, my headphones and make-up. Perhaps I should do a 'How To' on my blog for the zippy pouches.

Walk in the Woods Baby Quilt

Finished today, this quilt for the expected grandchild of a good friend of mine. It took me a while to choose the fabric but I'm happy with the way it turned out. It's from the Walk in the Woods range by Moda, I love the Little Red Riding Hoods.

I especially like the back. I'm waiting until the baby is born to make the label so I can put the name, date of birth and baby weight on it.
I hope grandmother, mother and baby like it.
