Moda Ruby Quilt

This is the Moda Ruby framed square quilt I have just finished. I am really pleased with it, I love the simplicity of the blocks and the colours in the fabric. I am especially pleased with the backing which wasn't initially my choice but Patchwork Corner were out of the fabric I originally ordered and only had enough of this one. I'm glad.

It was very sunny when I took this picture which makes the colours look a little washed out. I decided to go for a patched edging using some of the left over strips from the jelly roll I used. I also used a charm pack. I did have lots left over so I have a couple of cushions waiting to be finished and a couple of pincushions.

Quilt as I go!

Two of my ohio star blocks quilted and joined, I haven't done this before but I'm pleased with the results. For a large quilt which this one is, it will be easier than trying to get the whole thing quilted in one piece on the machine. I'm looking forward to getting more of them joined now that all the blocks are made.

Little Dumpling

Today's make. I used Keyka Lou's pattern again but this time I appliqued a heart with the fabric that I used for the lining. There is a little pink stitching around the heart that hasn't come out clearly on the photo. This is a lovely little pattern, I'll definitely be making more. Not photographed is the cushion top I also made this morning. I now have four cushions waiting to be piped. Cannot do as I still have not received the piping foot I ordered, out of stock apparently. So frustrating, I know I can use my zipper foot but it kept slipping so I'm not happy with it.

Busy Sewing

Blocks for a quilt using Moda Ruby

This is a collection of items I have made so far this week. I'm trying to accumulate a number of things to sell at the school summer fair and this is just the start. Pincushions, cards and a drawstring bag. I will be making a lot more over the next few weeks so I have a selection of low, medium and higher priced items. I have made cushion tops but am waiting for a piping foot to arrive so I can finish them. I will also be making a few baby quilts and bags of various shapes and sizes. I am hoping that people will commission items from me once they have seen what I can do.

The blocks in the top picture are waiting for backing to arrive to be assembled as the first one of the baby quilts for the school fair.

What's On The Needles?

This is what I'm working on at the moment. It's a jumper, pattern found here. I'm using Rowan wool cotton as the stitch definition is so good which is essential for these lovely cables. I actually bought the yarn for half price on Ebay.

My blogging has had to take a back seat for the last few weeks. Sadly my dad has been given just weeks to live so my attention is completely taken up with caring for him and my mother with parkinson's. My brother, sister and myself have been taking it in turns to live with them and care for them. A week at a time is all we can manage as it is tiring with getting up in the night and distressing. I have been overwhelmed however, with the kindness of neighbours and friends of theirs in their village in Dorset. Their local NHS service has also been fantastic and I can't praise these lovely people highly enough. The next few weeks are going to be hard but I know that he is surrounded by people who love him.

Disappearing Nine Patch Quilt

I finished this quilt some time ago but forgot to blog about it and put pictures one here. It was a long time in the making as the scraps took a while to assemble. Also I spent ages trying to decide what colour sashing and how to put it together once I had made the disappearing nine patch blocks.
I was going to go with pink but am glad I went for the green, the backing is the same as the sashing. I'm not sure what to do with it now, I may donate it to Linus or put it into a raffle for a good cause. At the moment it's cheering up my cream sofa.

Sewy Day With Log Cabin Quilters

My once a month sewing day with my local quilting group was a success, I was able to make a gift for my friend from a kit from Sunflower Fabrics. Today I piped it! Yes I know, I piped, never done that before. I did struggle a bit using my zipper foot on my machine so I think I had better get a piping foot as I think as a finishing technique it is brilliant.

I also made six more of the ohio blocks for my red star quilt, here are just a few of them. There will be two inch sashing between the blocks as I really wanted a floating block look to this quilt. I love the colours and can't wait to finish it.

I have absolutely no idea why and how this post is underlined! I cannot find an undo underlining key, I didnt ask it to underline, no idea!!
