I'm using Adriafil Knitcol which I love, but which has caused a problem I may not be able to live with. It has pooled. One side of the front looks very different from the other front. I didn't notice it until I took a photo to send to my sister. It was so obvious. Since I've done the icord edging all round it it doesn't look as bad so I'll get the sleeves done and then decide whether or not to keep it.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjQycXuESNXoDsRqzwz-1ovASsiCZIPN1bqbAigy3v_Pxcaes7nR9MbtJTI-NfxeZcnXucVKRTcGUj34AuvKXK4XN3XfGg8NgIbvsvduidKZKK5cWURj7bkXIKTrt8oph47-oVGQ9dK5vlbh59a8sTfpJWny7IHuzxGTbah6JCq117rEgr6_7Tx96o2cA=s2909" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2909" data-original-width="2804" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjQycXuESNXoDsRqzwz-1ovASsiCZIPN1bqbAigy3v_Pxcaes7nR9MbtJTI-NfxeZcnXucVKRTcGUj34AuvKXK4XN3XfGg8NgIbvsvduidKZKK5cWURj7bkXIKTrt8oph47-oVGQ9dK5vlbh59a8sTfpJWny7IHuzxGTbah6JCq117rEgr6_7Tx96o2cA=s320" width="308" /></a></div><br /><p>Although monogamous knitting is fine and dandy I did decide to take a break yesterday and knit up <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/snap-5">this hat</a>. It took no time at all, just a couple of hours. It's the Snap Hat by Tin Can Knits, using in my case, 2 strands of different yarn for a marled effect on 5.5mm needles. Quick, easy and very satisfying. Its a great stash buster and definitely useful for my hats for the homeless challenge this year.</p><p>Wherever you are and whatever you are doing I hope you have a good week.</p>Judihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16028187805258217552noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6985664403903111565.post-57775005546803935602022-01-18T05:43:00.000-08:002022-01-18T05:43:29.665-08:00What's On My Needles?<p> Another grey day here in Worcestershire. I have spent the morning dyeing up some more gradient with speckles yarn, in a glorious pink this time. It's still in the slow cooker getting all steamy.</p><p>Two projects are occupying my knitting time at the moment. Firstly I'm knitting up some of my own dyed yarn with my own pattern. Hopefully this will be a sample for kits. It's the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ten-bump-shawl">Ten Bump Shawl </a> which I created to show off the Urth Yarns that my sister and I have a shop shelf for at Cromford Mill, Derbyshire in Weaveknitit. The yarn is a 4 ply in the colour 'Dahlia Garden'.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj63x088ByZ6Id07BAyqX4877pMVOCN35w4zqD7x2fvOZrX0bwEi0zGqes_7G5KDXaBP2WJ1TMdxbV-hVxQ_9KII3x3eLFXZs_dJj9vDBWgXPN9Pwi1bDNs_hjrOqr8TDNwoYORlykrxVbw9r4EkyVmIibAkVXpGXD089jR8jVTtYNJ2zmMtYofxpWkSw=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj63x088ByZ6Id07BAyqX4877pMVOCN35w4zqD7x2fvOZrX0bwEi0zGqes_7G5KDXaBP2WJ1TMdxbV-hVxQ_9KII3x3eLFXZs_dJj9vDBWgXPN9Pwi1bDNs_hjrOqr8TDNwoYORlykrxVbw9r4EkyVmIibAkVXpGXD089jR8jVTtYNJ2zmMtYofxpWkSw=s320" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The second WIP is the socks I put on last weeks post. Instead I have been playing with my dye pots. Two skeins of dip dyed red and green, a skein of aran I used to mop up excess dye from the pot and a dye mop, all drying.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiJOOHv3aURsmH_bb016kM9xZ2Ine_u32sgr4ZBBrCXtP-Dp-Sq8lBU4H31zrQIwCWcfxAgrfQOTfSF5sJqlTxRrP4k9im1JhBg280lVcH9EzN6SvWHloMa36-5YnwwtdVV1TEaVIVaRo2rihXnJ7yZ_8rMD4xhC9bpf1zeDTZdsNXg1krYfbgmAD-5ZQ=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiJOOHv3aURsmH_bb016kM9xZ2Ine_u32sgr4ZBBrCXtP-Dp-Sq8lBU4H31zrQIwCWcfxAgrfQOTfSF5sJqlTxRrP4k9im1JhBg280lVcH9EzN6SvWHloMa36-5YnwwtdVV1TEaVIVaRo2rihXnJ7yZ_8rMD4xhC9bpf1zeDTZdsNXg1krYfbgmAD-5ZQ=s320" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The day is so grey that this photograph of my <a href="https://www.winwickmum.co.uk/2022/01/easy-mosaic-socks-free-pattern-and-tutorial.html">Easy Mosaic Socks</a>, free pattern, courtesy of Winwick Mum. I have made all three and this is the latest one which is the middle size. I just love this colour and the red heart buttons. I did go with a moss stitch collar, button band, button hole band, cuff and welt on this one just to ring the changes from the garter stitch a little. Looking closely at the picture it seems I have missed a ring of moss stitch on one of the cuffs, should you make one, you won't do that. That's what comes of trying to finish in hurry.<br />

As I have been a bad blogger I have forgotton how to create a link for this pattern in the tutorials and patterns section of the blog. I will work it out but in the meantime <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/home/Public?preview=Posy+Baby+Cardigan+3+sizes.pdf">here is the link</a> from this blog post. So I shall post this for now and go an play with creating the better link.</div>

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x5oZ7ypu_o4/VtbZRopeisI/AAAAAAAABa8/shXGF70YPDY/s1600/IMG_2194.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x5oZ7ypu_o4/VtbZRopeisI/AAAAAAAABa8/shXGF70YPDY/s400/IMG_2194.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Well this has been a long time coming. I put it up in the loft a couple of years ago meaning to finish it. It began as an idea for our bedroom which is cream and dark red. I love red and had seen other ohio star quilts and thought this would be it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-affoHiG_4wY/VtbZBT4pHEI/AAAAAAAABac/cEK0KC3fikc/s1600/P1000459.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-affoHiG_4wY/VtbZBT4pHEI/AAAAAAAABac/cEK0KC3fikc/s320/P1000459.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I really enjoyed choosing fabrics and went for those I loved, fat quarters and bits and pieces from other projects as well as a large piece from a fabric shop in Berwick Upon Tweed. I used a patchwork web site to design my quilt, the name of which is long forgotten but it really wasn't hard. This site was really about quantities of fabric which I completely ignored. Anyway I needed to make 20 12" blocks with an added inch and a half border of cream to each block.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--5ga5I1KXD4/VtbY9zjdiUI/AAAAAAAABaY/D5Nb08bOqH0/s1600/P1000458.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--5ga5I1KXD4/VtbY9zjdiUI/AAAAAAAABaY/D5Nb08bOqH0/s320/P1000458.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once made and having quilted a bed size quilt on my machine before I decided that I would 'quilt as I go' this time so I sewed four blocks together and then made a quilt sandwich with 'quilter's dream' wadding and backing fabric. I made myself a leaf shaped stencil and drew on quilting lines, they were gently curved as a contrast to the straight lines of the blocks. Quilting was minimal as I don't like the stiffness you get from close quilting. The quilting is hard to see in the main picture. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ekO0uKjKoTc/VtbZLbNqRDI/AAAAAAAABao/oVXFu5g7NvQ/s1600/P1000499.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ekO0uKjKoTc/VtbZLbNqRDI/AAAAAAAABao/oVXFu5g7NvQ/s200/P1000499.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HZl3TCAgXso/VtbZHF4LH9I/AAAAAAAABak/u7XIPokzjHE/s1600/P1000498.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HZl3TCAgXso/VtbZHF4LH9I/AAAAAAAABak/u7XIPokzjHE/s200/P1000498.jpg" width="200" /></a><br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I machine stitched the top pieces together, trimmed the wadding, hand stitched the wadding and then hand stitched the backing. I actually really enjoyed the hand sewing part of this quilt. I love that we can make quilts really quickly with our sewing machines but for me that detracts from the hand made essence of quilts. The hand made quality that comes with fabric choices, personal touches and hand work, all things that make a quilt unique.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qcTNiBQXp_0/VtbZOMUeUOI/AAAAAAAABas/kGe0rrc6vWI/s1600/P1000500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qcTNiBQXp_0/VtbZOMUeUOI/AAAAAAAABas/kGe0rrc6vWI/s320/P1000500.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is just a piece of the backing which is patchy with left over pieces of fabric from the stars. I will post a picture of the back in a later post as the quilt is in the washing machine and I didn't take a photo.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love this quilt, it makes me happy when I look at it, I'm glad I made it. </div>

<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gc4BlTi5VA4/VsDcqEUOd6I/AAAAAAAABZ8/3O9pjgqmufs/s1600/IMG_2175.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gc4BlTi5VA4/VsDcqEUOd6I/AAAAAAAABZ8/3O9pjgqmufs/s320/IMG_2175.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I've had this quilt idea in my head for a while. I really fancied lots of little houses and was desperate to use up some of my stash of fabric bits and pieces.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2cMFgwaawiY/VsDcuJLmEWI/AAAAAAAABaA/d1_ob65QwKY/s1600/IMG_2170.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2cMFgwaawiY/VsDcuJLmEWI/AAAAAAAABaA/d1_ob65QwKY/s320/IMG_2170.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I used <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/quilting/home-decor/free-house-quilt-block-tutorial/160629">this pattern</a>, a simple little house on an eight inch block, just the job. I did have to make a couple of adjustments. The door/ window /house section comes out wider than 61/2" and also I didn't do the roof in two sections, I just cut 1 piece 21/2" by 6 1/2".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2nYVUGyrph4/VsDcxAOO2_I/AAAAAAAABaE/YpXCxz4L2xA/s1600/IMG_2171.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2nYVUGyrph4/VsDcxAOO2_I/AAAAAAAABaE/YpXCxz4L2xA/s320/IMG_2171.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I'm really happy with the block and have worked out that I need 88 of them to create the quilt. I've made 8. So a long way to go then.Judihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16028187805258217552noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6985664403903111565.post-7811853423150734552016-02-09T07:14:00.000-08:002016-02-09T07:14:35.751-08:00Aubusson CardiganI thought the dress I made, see previous post, needed a cardi. I saw this in the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/the-knitter-issue-92">Knitter Magazine</a> issue 92. I did change it so it doesn't look much like the original, but I'm happy with it. <a href="http://www.woolwarehouse.co.uk/yarn?brand_name=6102">The Drops Air and Big Delight </a>yarns were lovely to work with and the Air is beautifully soft.<br />

<br />
I had to have this pattern as soon as a I saw it, I loved the casual look of it and that it would be lovely in many different fabrics.<br />
<br />
The first one sadly is only wearable with a T shirt under it as the neckline is too wide, having said that I have worn it quite a lot, it's comfy and easy to wear and at this time of year a T shirt is no bad thing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--oLbRRKtCPo/VrdZOdwuh_I/AAAAAAAABZE/BuXMGkJdpS8/s1600/IMG_1949.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--oLbRRKtCPo/VrdZOdwuh_I/AAAAAAAABZE/BuXMGkJdpS8/s320/IMG_1949.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I did follow the pattern to the letter including the dropped hem the back, it was so easy to put together (especially if you read the pattern carefully) I like the pocket detail and the soft gathers at the front and back are good on me. It doesn't look very good on the hanger though. I know I should model them but I'm settled on the sofa watching the rugby. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lPC_JxMO57k/VrdZUpcoTDI/AAAAAAAABZM/Nuzl8JuufWQ/s1600/IMG_2150.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lPC_JxMO57k/VrdZUpcoTDI/AAAAAAAABZM/Nuzl8JuufWQ/s320/IMG_2150.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the second one, both the pattern and this linen cotton blend fabric are from <a href="http://www.backstitch.co.uk/">Backstitch</a>. This time I closed up the neck by redrafting the pattern at the neckline. I made the straight hem option as I wasn't really happy with the dropped hem. I'm very happy with this one. The gathers could have been a bit more even and I'm thinking that next time I'll make the skirt a little wider and put some pleats in the front between the pockets.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TEQFaBVN1Kg/VrdZXh-JoeI/AAAAAAAABZQ/GRa1ZuqbBD8/s1600/IMG_2152.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TEQFaBVN1Kg/VrdZXh-JoeI/AAAAAAAABZQ/GRa1ZuqbBD8/s320/IMG_2152.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Love these pockets. Also added three little buttons as an embellishment on the neck. If I remember correctly these came on a dress label from White Stuff. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think I'll get lots of wear out of this one, so much so that I'm knitting a cardigan to go with it. It's almost done.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JxrrBa514sM/VrdZatAmdHI/AAAAAAAABZU/jP9Cz8QwAoA/s1600/IMG_2151.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JxrrBa514sM/VrdZatAmdHI/AAAAAAAABZU/jP9Cz8QwAoA/s320/IMG_2151.jpg" width="240" /></a><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-283oZ-Ixuu8/VrdZRpC3vcI/AAAAAAAABZI/5NzFeTAo_v0/s1600/IMG_2147.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-283oZ-Ixuu8/VrdZRpC3vcI/AAAAAAAABZI/5NzFeTAo_v0/s320/IMG_2147.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One of the most exciting things about this second Fen dress is that I used my newly purchased Juki overlocker to finish the seams. Yay!</div>

Hence the dyeing. These are new dyes for me from <a href="http://www.doodlestop.co.uk/">Doodlestop</a>. The main reason for using them is that they can be used in the kitchen with utensils from the kitchen, most importantly, my microwave.<br />
<br />
My usual method requires a large pot on the stove that is only used for dyeing, a nuisance and time consuming. I had been wanting to use the microwave for ages and with these dyes I could.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u9sTv5OuU_I/Vo0hyzCveUI/AAAAAAAABY0/Op2UnRzzhwY/s1600/IMG_2037.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u9sTv5OuU_I/Vo0hyzCveUI/AAAAAAAABY0/Op2UnRzzhwY/s320/IMG_2037.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The purple is Superwash Merino, nylon and cashmere. The red is the same as the purple but a high twist so the yarn is denser. The blue is Superwash blue faced leicester and donegal neps. All the dye solutions were 1.25ml with 125ml of water. I then added dye in 10ml amounts to water and put the yarn in. The purple was 10ml blue and 20 ml red. I'm not really happy with it but dyeing is all about experimentation.</div>
I have quite a lot of sock yarn for dyeing so more playing on the horizon.Judihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16028187805258217552noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6985664403903111565.post-89202285022894447072015-08-20T08:54:00.000-07:002015-08-20T08:54:12.350-07:00Dottie Angel Dress<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bOtwsFukHgA/VdXyAFkzK3I/AAAAAAAABYA/CzwW7iqmuwA/s1600/IMG_1719.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bOtwsFukHgA/VdXyAFkzK3I/AAAAAAAABYA/CzwW7iqmuwA/s320/IMG_1719.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had been waiting for this pattern for ages. I saw examples of the dress on Pinterest and knew I wanted to make one. Fortunately Tif from Dottie Angel was able to publish her pattern through Simplicity Patterns, it is pattern 1080. The number of pictures on Pinterest of this dress is growing by the day.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UZhpcQQRdww/VdXyAb3uzeI/AAAAAAAABYI/_banae4ikLU/s1600/IMG_1720.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UZhpcQQRdww/VdXyAb3uzeI/AAAAAAAABYI/_banae4ikLU/s320/IMG_1720.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found this lovely check linen on Hitchin Market for only £5 per metre, it creases like mad but feels and hangs beautifully and I think works really well for this dress. The bias trim and the pockets were some lawn I bought at a sewing show earlier in the year. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4XOp-zJa_wg/VdXyADrP7hI/AAAAAAAABYE/FgKjhU-iScM/s1600/IMG_1721.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4XOp-zJa_wg/VdXyADrP7hI/AAAAAAAABYE/FgKjhU-iScM/s320/IMG_1721.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
From my measurements I went for medium, unfortunately it did come up rather wide across the shoulders so I had to do some jiggery pokery with pleats front and back at the neckline. I was a bit disappointed, not enough not to wear though. It is the comfiest dress I own. I also lowered the tucks by about 2 inches as on other reviews I had read this was the advice for those of us with an ample bosom. I'm glad I did as that adjustment worked well for me. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JAg_pmwZlJU/VdXyBb1I1vI/AAAAAAAABYY/FUyq_stkjmg/s1600/IMG_1722.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JAg_pmwZlJU/VdXyBb1I1vI/AAAAAAAABYY/FUyq_stkjmg/s320/IMG_1722.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All in all a success as I am wearing it and I do love it. I have today made a toile using an old duvet of the dress in a size small with the tucks lowered, but not as far as on this one. I'm glad I have as the small is definitely the best size for me. I have some lovely fabric I bought in Brugges to make another one. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K1wlkO_Z7xs/VdXyLNz5jfI/AAAAAAAABYk/aWSawY8uYWU/s1600/IMG_1717.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K1wlkO_Z7xs/VdXyLNz5jfI/AAAAAAAABYk/aWSawY8uYWU/s400/IMG_1717.JPG" width="300" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This dress is part of a homemade wardrobe project. The <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/twigs-and-willows">Twigs and Willows cardigan</a> by Alana Dakos is almost done, back, fronts and sleeves started using <a href="http://www.woolwarehouse.co.uk/yarn/drops-lima-all-colours">Drops Lima</a> ,my go to yarn for cardi's. It's soft, warm durable and comes in a range of lovely colours. Not in this picture is the yarn for a crescent shaped scarf, shawl thing which hopefully will complete the outfit. It's a light grey silvery colour. </div>

I love this blanket, the colours, the feel of it and the making of it. The rhythm of the hooking was calming and meditative. Not because I haven't had anything to say but because I've been struggling with posting photos onto blogger using my mac. Finally I think I've solved the problem by putting a copy onto the desktop and taking it from there, I'm about to try it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3UPcC0TEbao/VaJijwTMLWI/AAAAAAAABWg/UQmt7DwNPZ8/s1600/P1020308.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3UPcC0TEbao/VaJijwTMLWI/AAAAAAAABWg/UQmt7DwNPZ8/s320/P1020308.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Success, isn't this lovely? We went to Grow London a couple of weeks ago and saw this garden, it was full, colour coordinated and cottagy, gorgeous. Definitely something to try. Grow London was in a marquee on Hampstead Heath, it was interesting as there were not so many gardens, infact only a couple inside the marquee, but there were lots of stands including <a href="http://www.thestripescompany.com/?gclid=Cj0KEQjwoIitBRDTgeiZq93F2LQBEiQAMfXL0ajjee-gYO5RJinMAZwIUGxgf65u7R6ZDh-tzw_UjL4aAnjR8P8HAQ">The Stripes Company</a> I bought a hat, their stand was so colourful. Deck chair fabric for deckchairs and other things.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was a garden we passed walking through Kilburn in North Yorkshire, this is the village where the Mouseman has his shop. This garden was just lovely, so cleverly planting next to this little beck.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a view of the garden at <a href="http://www.millgatehouse.com/">Millgate House</a> in Richmond, the garden is RHS affiliated and rightly so. It's just crammed with roses, hostas, penstemens, honeysuckle, clematis. The thing that strikes you is how full it is and how scented it is, we visited in the day and the smell of the roses was lovely, but I should imagine at dusk the scent would be incredible.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Just two of the beautiful roses in the garden, Millgate House is also a B&B, the pictures of the interior of the house look gorgeous, must stay there one day.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Finally I'm really happy with the way this turned out. The pattern was straight forward, I bodged from a pattern for Little Miss Sunshine. It took longer to sew together and to stuff than to knit. Someone on Ravelry has done a Little Miss Princess, might do that one next, it's pink. It was an extra, late birthday present for Marnie.</div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y6o5SirPqEY/VYCMUOyyOCI/AAAAAAAABVU/3XMDOqXMDPw/s1600/P1020274.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y6o5SirPqEY/VYCMUOyyOCI/AAAAAAAABVU/3XMDOqXMDPw/s320/P1020274.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the fourth one of these I have made. <a href="http://www.made-by-rae.com/washi-dress-print-pattern-stockists/">This pattern</a> is great. I have made three dresses and one top. This one uses some Liberty fabric that I was given for Christmas and it works so well. I decided to make patch pockets instead of the inseam ones in the pattern, the neckline is faced and the sleeves are bound with bias tape on the inside.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q4DCLY7I27c/VYCMhG5B_JI/AAAAAAAABVw/DH6YB5Fnxtc/s1600/P1020280.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q4DCLY7I27c/VYCMhG5B_JI/AAAAAAAABVw/DH6YB5Fnxtc/s320/P1020280.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Not a very good picture of me in the dress, but at least it gives an idea. The pattern suggests using shirring elastic in 6 rows at the back, on this one I made a casing which I sewed to the outside back and threaded knicker elastic through it and caught it in the side seams to the correct stretch for me. It worked fine. (Sorry that is a really clumsy sentence)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nx-j2QN8KvY/VYCMUF7U8EI/AAAAAAAABVY/tCvGxpywNLE/s1600/P1020275.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nx-j2QN8KvY/VYCMUF7U8EI/AAAAAAAABVY/tCvGxpywNLE/s320/P1020275.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is a close up of the bodice with the lace at the neck. I tried machining it on at first but it pulled the lace too tight, I tried again and by gathering it a little and hand stitching it on it was fine.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uGJZsvj44g4/VYCSAbZxNxI/AAAAAAAABWA/hOTYTgs1s5g/s1600/IMG_0291.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uGJZsvj44g4/VYCSAbZxNxI/AAAAAAAABWA/hOTYTgs1s5g/s320/IMG_0291.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one uses Cath Kidston fabric that I got in the sale. I made the dress without any modifications except for the addition of a full bodice lining. This gives a garment with thin fabric structure and body, it feels really nice to wear.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NbtTobWqKfw/VYCSYSag-5I/AAAAAAAABWI/U7ExZZHzxO4/s1600/IMG_0209.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NbtTobWqKfw/VYCSYSag-5I/AAAAAAAABWI/U7ExZZHzxO4/s320/IMG_0209.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was the first one I made. I used a linen cotton mix fabric and a contrast floral for the facing. The dress was exactly as the pattern. I saw one made up at <a href="http://www.backstitch.co.uk/">Backstitch</a> near Cambridge using a contrast for the facing, I loved it and had to have a go.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KHRTkMMnrr0/VYCSYsKDGpI/AAAAAAAABWM/dmmGEfXdkz4/s1600/IMG_1179.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KHRTkMMnrr0/VYCSYsKDGpI/AAAAAAAABWM/dmmGEfXdkz4/s320/IMG_1179.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
More liberty fabric, this time from the Fent Shop in Skipton, good value in the sale. This one is shorter to wear with jeans or leggings and no cap sleeves. It still has the inseam pockets though.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have worn all of them many times except for the most recent. A great pattern.</div>

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Lhw61f60yEc/VWQ_QEojIJI/AAAAAAAABU8/guu4EIaH6Rs/s1600/P1020273.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Lhw61f60yEc/VWQ_QEojIJI/AAAAAAAABU8/guu4EIaH6Rs/s320/P1020273.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I don't really know how I've ended up working on two blankets, especially as it is now the end of May, so early summer. As they get bigger, I get hotter, not good for a woman of a certain age.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yswxL-drK1E/VWQ_M3fpmfI/AAAAAAAABUk/cwrNxIhtzas/s1600/P1020271.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yswxL-drK1E/VWQ_M3fpmfI/AAAAAAAABUk/cwrNxIhtzas/s320/P1020271.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one is my ripple blanket as per Lucy from <a href="http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/ripple-blanket-know-how.html">Attic24</a> I've used her Cosy pack of yarn from <a href="http://www.woolwarehouse.co.uk/">Wool Warehouse</a> it's Stylecraft Special DK. It's great for this project as it's soft, washable, the colours are perfect and its very cheap. I've just finished the third repeat of the 15 colours and I need to do six to complete it, so half way there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sJyGByr-KAA/VWQ_MroTNeI/AAAAAAAABUg/zqVoWSQOl9A/s1600/P1020270.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sJyGByr-KAA/VWQ_MroTNeI/AAAAAAAABUg/zqVoWSQOl9A/s320/P1020270.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one is my sock yarn blanket, as those of you who know me know, I like knitting socks, there is always some left over so I was ending up with a huge bag of bits of sock yarn. I used <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sock-yarn-blanket">this</a> pattern by Shelley Lang and set to. I have been knitting this for ages and ages. I'm now trying to be disciplined and knitting at least one square per day, as they only take about 20 minutes that's doable. Hopefully I should be nearly done by Christmas.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-00Sw9fif-7M/VWQ_M7k-X5I/AAAAAAAABUo/C4U32hsuUC0/s1600/P1020269.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-00Sw9fif-7M/VWQ_M7k-X5I/AAAAAAAABUo/C4U32hsuUC0/s320/P1020269.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Every big project needs a bit project bag. The sock yarn blanket lives in my huge Cath Kidston project bag and my crochet ripple blanket lives in the enormous beach bag I made the other week. Even though these are both getting really big, they remain projects that can be picked up and put down easily as the method for both if very simple, no trawling through the pattern to see where I'm up to and what to do next. With these its just knit another square or crochet another ripple. So off I go to knit another square and crochet another ripple.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
My first time ever at Chelsea Flower Show. I've never been able to go before because it is always in term time and the weekend days would have been just too busy and impossible to see anything. I went on Wednesday, it was fantastic. Gorgeous gardens, colours, scents, things to buy, people to see. I loved it.<br />
<br />
What about that sweet teapot with a plant in, definitely something to try once I've found a little tea pot at a car boot sale.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-89slQRBuBpQ/VV38ltlU9OI/AAAAAAAABUI/gT67f6UuUCQ/s1600/P1020219.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-89slQRBuBpQ/VV38ltlU9OI/AAAAAAAABUI/gT67f6UuUCQ/s320/P1020219.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
How about the garden in a pond rather than a pond in a garden, fantastic. The mirrored boxes that held the cactus' reflected all the available light and looked as though they had lightbulbs in them. What a great idea.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WoRNMLqfNfQ/VV38lmaQSLI/AAAAAAAABUM/B33JOUYuRfs/s1600/P1020203.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WoRNMLqfNfQ/VV38lmaQSLI/AAAAAAAABUM/B33JOUYuRfs/s320/P1020203.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So many alliums, on display in the floral marquee and amongst the planting in so many of the gardens. Many varieties were on display, they seem to be able to do the formal and the informal, I love them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All in all a really good day. I will definitely go again next year, I've joined the RHS so hopefully I can go on a member only day which will make it less busy. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">O.K. so its been many, many months since my last post. I would apologise but I doubt if anyone is reading as its been so long since there has been anything to read.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have recently been feeling the need to blog if just to record some of my craftiness. Things I have made, how and why with pictures. That was mostly what this blog was about anyway so I'm going to try and rekindle this and be more disciplined with it as a record for myself mostly. I might revamp the blog a bit, ditch a few things, add a few things just for a change.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I thought this first post for ages should contain lots of colour so here is a picture of my Ripple Blanket with the Cosy Colour Pack.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PAluy6Dr-us/VVhs-WtpMrI/AAAAAAAABTo/tXQVlmpEurI/s1600/11225719_10155030019824619_6940197837557656346_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PAluy6Dr-us/VVhs-WtpMrI/AAAAAAAABTo/tXQVlmpEurI/s320/11225719_10155030019824619_6940197837557656346_n.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">More colour than you can shake a stick at. This pattern and colours are from <a href="http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/">Lucy at Attic24</a>, the pattern is in a list of her crochet patterns on the blog. Lucy's patterns are so well written, I'm loving the rhythm of the hooking and watching the colours as the blanket grows. The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK, cheap as chips but great for this project as its soft and washable.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Recently I have been attending a sewing group on Tuesday evening. We have made a peg bag, a chicken doorstop and most recently a large beach bag. Mine is not for the beach, it is for the above blanket. I didn't choose the fabric so it is by sheer chance that it looks as good as it does in the bag.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T0HknSkc11A/VVhwPfHl44I/AAAAAAAABTw/Q5RkbdChCYw/s1600/IMG_0442.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T0HknSkc11A/VVhwPfHl44I/AAAAAAAABTw/Q5RkbdChCYw/s320/IMG_0442.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The bag is huge, just as well for a blanket project. The outer fabric is from Ikea, I hand quilted it as the design was perfect for hand quilting and it wasn't quilt sized to it didn't take long.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">That's it for now, I'm off for a walk and then some more hooking.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gq3sxFogzyk/Um6Rze4s-3I/AAAAAAAABSs/KqxoQeFeRbM/s1600/P1010570.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gq3sxFogzyk/Um6Rze4s-3I/AAAAAAAABSs/KqxoQeFeRbM/s320/P1010570.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Keeping the skein smaller really helped with the tangling and winding and gnashing of teeth. (see my previous post) This blue and yellow was much easier to manage. I've knitted a small bit of it up just to see how it looks and I love it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have been dyeing again today, trying to recreate the colours in this picture of foxgloves that I took at Chatsworth back in August.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-st_iC5ZFY6A/Um6S2I135ZI/AAAAAAAABS4/SHg0ENnZS2U/s1600/P1010441.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-st_iC5ZFY6A/Um6S2I135ZI/AAAAAAAABS4/SHg0ENnZS2U/s320/P1010441.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made up a green using <a href="http://www.sarastexturecrafts.com/">easidyes</a> and put that in the big pot. I put half of the skein in the green dye and rested the other half on the metal rack above the dye mix. I then sprinkled magenta dye crystals on top of it, put the lid on and simmered for 15 minutes. When it's dry I'll put a picture on, the natural part of the skein ended up pink in places and some of the green ended up blue, I've no idea why. However, I like it and can't wait for it to dry so I can knit it. There was quite a lot of colour in the big pot when I removed the skein of yarn so I put another one in, its a lovely blue with shades of green, love that too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That is the big problem with all of the dyeing, I want to knit it all and not sell it on Etsy. And it is selling, I sold two skeins this week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've just ordered another 5 skeins of undyed sock wool, merino this time, so more dyeing at the end of the week. Fab!</div>

However the best thing about knitting socks is sock yarn. Self patterning, semi solid colours and self striping. I have dyed wool for socks but I really wanted to have a go at self striping.<br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=13/10/16/164.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/13/10/16/s_164.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='210' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />The blue and red was the first attempt and it's knitting up beautifully. I had no idea how wide each stripe would be, the large skein I wound I did on my sisters deck between two chairs. It wasn't easy, as as soon as I started her three cats and a dog turned up to help! I dyed it, washed it, dried it and tried to get it back into a small skein or ball to knit. Nightmare! It was twisted and tangled, I had it spread out between my kitchen, living room and conservatory, it took ages. The stripes are about 9 to 10 yards each and knit up to about 10 rounds.<br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=13/10/16/165.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/13/10/16/s_165.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='210' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />Thinking that the red and blue stripes are a little wide, the next attempt was for a slightly smaller skein. About half of the red and blue, 4-5 yards. Easier to make the smaller skein. These two pots have been steamed, the dye is all absorbed and now it is drying. Can't wait to knit this one up. I have tried to keep it from tangling this time, and as it's smaller it should be O.K. Such fun!<br /><br />Posted using BlogPress from my iPad<br />Judihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16028187805258217552noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6985664403903111565.post-82419566806940724242013-10-01T04:20:00.001-07:002013-10-01T04:20:16.504-07:00Sewing and Dyeing<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I'm playing with dye, encouraged after my <a href="http://judiknitsandsews.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/dyeing-yarn-at-toft-alpaca.html">day at Toft</a> I bought dyes and yarn and I have been playing. The skein on the right was the first one I did. I 'painted' it in magenta and blue on cling film and then I put it in the microwave. It was a bit hit and miss as I wasn't sure how long to cook it for, when I took it out quite a lot of dye came out of it as I rinsed it, this could have been as there was too much dye or because I didn't cook it long enough. I'm not sure whether to wash it again or over dye with another colour. The skein on the left was dyed with the left overs of the first skein. I love this one, how the colour changes are so subtle, there is a true lavender colour and mixes.</div>

Having done that I got bored waiting for the yarn to dry so I made this knitting bag from a pattern from <a href="http://www.emmagarry.com/">Emma Garry</a>. The fabric was from the Fent shop in Skipton, the outer is John Lewis and the lining is Liberty. The Fent Shop is fantastic for fabric and notions, all brands, pieces, bolts etc. 12" zips only 50p! I always visit when I go to Skipton, sadly they don't have an online shop so you have to visit. What's not to love about a visit to Skipton I say!</div>

I had a good day creating yesterday, and now I'm off to Derbyshire for the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/groups/wensley-yarn-workers">Wensley Yarn Workers</a> Exhibition in Cromford. I'm doing socks! </div>

It was brilliant, so many people selling gorgeous things. Bunting everywhere, a lovely sunny day, a double decker bus decorated with bunting on the outside and sheep on the inside. Smiles and happy faces. That was my experience. Some however were turned back as there was no parking left and some left waiting for ages for the loo or a coffee.<br /><br />I'm sure that problems encountered this year will be rectified for next year because it was too good not to do again.<br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=13/09/30/199.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/13/09/30/s_199.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />Ducks by the canal, the walk to the venue was delightful with bunting and yarn bombing all the way.<br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=13/09/30/200.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/13/09/30/s_200.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />Trees with Pom poms and bunting.<br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=13/09/30/201.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/13/09/30/s_201.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />Wow! It was really sweet how the mummy alpacas surrounded the babies to keep them safe as we entered their field, they were so close we could hear them humming to each other.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I spent a lovely day learning how to dye yarn, it was a great workshop, <a href="http://www.dtcrafts.co.uk/">Debbie Tomkies</a> was full of information, she showed us several ways of dyeing yarn to achieve different effects. We also made a range of colours using different quantities of dye to see how easy it was to make the colour we wanted.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was my main effort, hopefully when I've knitted it up into socks it will be striped in the three colours. I'll post pictures of the socks when they are knitted. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Harriet at Toft Alpaca was the perfect hostess, the lunch was lovely and the piece of carrot cake as huge. I would really recommend workshops at <a href="http://www.thetoftalpacashop.co.uk/">Toft</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I didn't come home empty handed. Not only did I have my dyed yarn, I also bought 500gms of grey alpaca fluff for spinning, its so soft.</div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ySecypDBctc/UfvKWFbIPCI/AAAAAAAABQw/NoDhE_0W0Ho/s1600/P1010424.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="194" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ySecypDBctc/UfvKWFbIPCI/AAAAAAAABQw/NoDhE_0W0Ho/s320/P1010424.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This is today's picture for the <a href="http://www.susannahconway.com/the-august-break-2013/">August Break Challenge</a>, yes I know the title should have been circles, but the fluff I used for this yarn was called bubbles so I'm going with that, bubbles, a bit like circles, maybe.<br />
<br />
The second challenge is that of the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/wensley-yarn-workers/2629148/1-25#11">Wensley Yarn Workers August Challenge</a>, this is my offering, the idea is to use the photo as a stimulus for creating something yarn associated. I couldn't resist the fluff to make this art yarn to go with it. It was fun to spin as it was full of slubs and bits and sparkles and silk and, and.. it was gorgeous. I actually preferred the fluff than the spun yarn.Judihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16028187805258217552noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6985664403903111565.post-28788191878716375002013-08-01T10:16:00.001-07:002013-08-01T10:16:38.441-07:00August Break Day One - Breakfast<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
An odd picture I hear you say. Well this is the first picture in the '<a href="http://www.susannahconway.com/the-august-break-2013/">August Break</a>' Challenge. Breakfast was the title of today's photo. Very apt as The traindriver and I had our wedding anniversary yesterday, we had a meal and stayed the night with breakfast at the <a href="http://www.theknifeandcleaver.com/">Knife and Cleaver</a> in Houghton Conquest. It was lovely. We chose this place as it is where we spent our wedding night four years ago.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Tomorrow's photo challenge is 'Circles'.</div>

Nine, yes nine sock kits. I have sewn the zippy pouches, printed off the pattern, made row markers, put needles together with washi tape and assembled them. Next week they will go into my Etsy shop (there is a link here on the blog) but this weekend they are coming with me to Derbyshire for the Wensley Yarn Workers Open Day. I will be knitting socks to inspire others to pick up pointy sticks and join in. <br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=13/07/30/956.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/13/07/30/s_956.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='210' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=13/07/30/957.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/13/07/30/s_957.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='210' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />Posted using BlogPress from my iPad<br />Judihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16028187805258217552noreply@blogger.com0
