Learning to Take Photographs

This is one of my favourite photos that I took on the photography course that we went to on Saturday. The theme for all of the pictures was curves and lines. I hope you can see the line of the wall behind the flowers, maybe a little blurred but it is there.

Lovely lines and curves on this one, a different photo altogether, the first one I used macro and a low f stop to get close to the flowers and the background blurred but on the one of the estuary at low tide I used a bigger f stop. Tricks taught by Rachel and Phil from Photography Made Simple. This is the second course we have done with them, both have been just fab.

I tried hard to balance this one and get the view central to the doorway, curves at the top.

No curves or lines on this one except the bubbles of water, just me playing with the shutter speed and motion. I definitely want to take more photos of fountains or waterfalls. It was a great day.

Shropshire Weekend

What a lovely surprise Shropshire was. So beautiful and peaceful, no traffic, no crowds and lovely weather. We went for a photography course as neither of us was confident going beyond 'inteligent auto' setting on our cameras, now we are. It was a great course run by Photography Made Simple The tutors were supportive and informative and I am now practising using Aperture priority and other settings on my little camera. The course was held at Highley which is a pretty railway station on the Severn Valley Railway. The photo above was taken at the next station down the line where we had to practice our new skills.
We stayed at a fabulous B&B called Timberstones run by Tracey and Alex who were great hosts. The rooms were just lovely, both breakfast and evening meals were fab and there were even cocktails on offer. I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone. We met some lovely people over breakfast, dinner and cocktails which made this stay even more pleasurable than other places we have stayed. One of the reasons for this I think is that there was no television. We will go back one day as we loved it so much.
